Working again with the team at IDEO.org, I was a technology and design lead for the large digital focus of Design Kit, the hub of human-centered design learning online. Design thinking and HCD, a process to problem solving championed in the IDEO community, needed a new home and a fresh start. So we brought it to life.

WHY?

Working daily with the team I led user experience design and development (based from the visual brand created by IDEO.org) and led web project management, including regular visits of on-site work with the team.

This project was the start of a lot of new things. It marked the rebirth of HCDConnect, the long-time previous home, as a new and different product. Built with a backbone of simplicity and actionability at it's core, everything we did needed to be contextual and delightful – it needed to be something you want to use. Each decision was made with that in mind, from the technology stack to the type and color scheme, and it led to the process being one that started from a great place with a vision to never divert from it.

Results

Painstaking over the details led to an experience that mirrored the print version of the content while also allowing viewers to dig into content far beyond what the print edition could deliver. Ranging from video content, hands-on tutorials and a way to create a community of content creators, the new Design Kit is prepped for global innovators to learn and collaborate on.
